Workday, Anthropic link Claude reasoning to HR and finance rules
Workday and Anthropic will connect Claude's reasoning with Workday Sana agents, keeping Workday permissions and business rules on every request.

The story in focus
Workday and Anthropic announced a partnership connecting Claude's reasoning with Workday's Sana AI agents and HR and finance data. Work is started in either Sana or Claude, with information exchanged through the Model Context Protocol. Workday permissions, business rules and audit controls apply, and users confirm changes.
- The Sana in Claude plugin is available to early access customers and expected to be generally available in late 2026.
- Workday Agent-Ready Tools are generally available through Workday Extend AI.
- Claude and Sana exchange information and tasks via the Model Context Protocol, an open standard.
Actions stay tied to Workday controls
Under the partnership, an employee can begin a task in either Sana, Workday's agentic orchestration layer, or in Claude. Context and controls carry between them because the two exchange information and tasks through the Model Context Protocol, so work continues rather than restarting. Workday said Sana orchestrates its agents through long-running HR and finance processes, such as a compensation cycle or the financial close, and builds the workspace each task needs without moving data out of Workday. When a step requires reasoning, Sana calls on Claude and shares only the context that step needs, while exceptions go to a person for review.
Availability and existing ties
In Claude, employees can access Sana AI agents, analyse Workday HR and finance data and act. Workday's example has a hiring manager compare open roles against headcount and budget, then build an internal mobility plan; a finance leader can check invoice exceptions against purchase orders and approve them in Claude or route them to Sana. Workday said every action follows the customer's existing permissions and audit controls, and Claude surfaces only what the user is permitted to see. Joint customers can build their own agents in Claude using Workday Agent-Ready Tools, with the same governance and audit trail and no new permission model.
Availability and existing ties
The Sana in Claude plugin is available to early access customers and expected to be generally available in late 2026. Workday Agent-Ready Tools are generally available to all customers through Workday Extend AI and will be available via the plugin later this year. Anthropic already runs its finance and people operations on Workday Financials and Workday HCM, and Workday has rolled out Claude Enterprise, with plans to start to leverage Cowork. Workday said the two will continue to collaborate on the roadmap for Sana and Claude.

Workday said the plugin is now available to early access customers and is expected to be generally available in late 2026. Agent-Ready Tools are already generally available through Workday Extend AI.
